The Elk City Carnegie Library

The Elk City Carnegie Library continues to serve its community as a public library. The building is distinctive in that, rather than a classical pointed pediment over the door, it features an arch over the main doorway, and it also has attractive gables at either end of the building. Decorative brickwork also enhances the end walls with a raised central panel and blind arcade.

This is a small building with quiet dignity, and marks a move away from the classical architectural elements previously popular for public buildings, and it looks towards the more modern architectural styles soon to be made famous by such architects as Louis Sullivan and Frank Lloyd Wright.
